Ross Cunningham has been named as the William Hill SPFL League One Player of the Month for August. The forward has picked up three goals and an assist throughout the month and is currently the league’s joint top scorer.
Ross has been at New Central Park since 2023 after signing from Clyde. Since the beginning of this season, he has been playing a slightly different role behind the strikers to great effect.

Speaking to Kelty Hearts TV, Ross is “delighted” with the award. “That just shows how well we have done as a team. It’s a good start to the season but it’s just a start, I’m aiming for more goals and more assists then we’ll go from there.”
The first goal for Kelty Hearts this season was scored by Cunningham at Links Park in Montrose on the opening day. In the 68th minute Brody Patterson looped a cross deep into the box and Ross composed himself with a first touch then drilled past the goalkeeper on the half volley.
Against Stenhousemuir Cunningham netted the second goal in a 2-0 win. In the 56th minute, Craig Johnston held up the ball in the box and found Cunningham at the edge. He ran into the box, beat the challenge from the defender and slotted into the bottom corner.
It was a goal and an assist for Ross up at Gayfield on matchday three. For Scott Allan’s opener, Cunningham collected a long pass from Johnston and flicked a through ball towards Allan who finished past the Arbroath goalkeeper. Ross got one for himself and Kelty’s third of the afternoon after some neat play in the midfield. Johnston played the pass into the box where Cunningham struck first time past McAdams in the Arbroath net.

Well done Ross!
