Match Report: Kelty Hearts 2-0 Queen of the South

It was two wins in a week at New Central Park as Kelty Hearts commanded a 2-0 victory over Queen of the South.  A second half brace for Ross Cunningham was enough to clinch the three points which lifts the Maroon Machine to second in the league.

The deadlock was eventually broken in the 64th minute through Ross Cunningham.  After some good play from Kelty, Jacob MacIntyre found Cunningham from distance.  Kelty’s number 10 teed himself up and fired into the top left corner with an exquisite strike.

Cunningham added his second and Kelty’s second from the penalty spot in the 87th minute.  Some neat play down the left saw Connor Allan make his way into the box when he was brought down by Harry Cochrane.  Cunningham stepped up to take it and sent Ross Stewart the wrong way for an emphatic finish.

In a first half lacking quality, Kelty’s best chances came from shots from distance.  Cunningham was a threat all afternoon and tested Stewart all afternoon, forcing him into a save in the opening ten minutes.

Queen of the South were a constant threat from set pieces and long throws, with the weather impacting the play on the pitch.  Doherty and Brooks came close for the Doonhamers but Ruaridh Adams was there to make the saves.

Reflecting on the 90 to Kelty Hearts TV, manager Michael Tidser said “it’s a good three points.  I’m pleased for the squad because it’s been a tough week, so to come out of it with two wins from home is really pleasing.”
