Callum Flatman’s last minute equaliser earned Kelty Hearts a deserved point against league leaders Arbroath. The leveller came with virtually the last kick of the ball, in a match where Arbroath took the lead early in the first half.
The opener for the Red Lichties was scored by defender Keith Watson. When Sam Stanton’s volley hit the post, play was recycled by David Gold who fired back into the box where Watson was arriving. The centre half’s finish was one a striker would be proud of, going in off the post out of Ryan Adamson’s reach.

Kelty Hearts huffed and puffed for an equaliser and were the better side in the second half. After the Angus side spent the closing stages of the match with the ball in the corner, Kelty had a chance when Tam O’Ware was fouled outside of the box to the right.
Scott Allan whipped in a cross and chaos ensued when Aiden McAdams spilled the ball into the path of Flatman. The defender poached in front of everyone in the box and scrambled over the line to draw level.

Both goalkeepers had big moments in the first half making important saves in one-v-ones. First of all with the game still at 0-0, Adamson reacted quickly to close the angle for Sam Stanton and make a crucial save. Similarly, after a swift counter attack Luke McCarvel’s shot was turned behind for a corner by McAdams.
Reflecting on the draw to Kelty Hearts TV, Charlie Mulgrew believes “we were excellent for long spells of the game. I’m over the moon with the way we played, if we didn’t get the equaliser it would’ve been a sore one to take – it’s nothing less than we deserved.”
