Attention turns to the Scottish Cup as Kelty Hearts host Highland League high-flyers Brechin City. It is the Maroon Machine’s first match in the famous competition this campaign, and the visitor’s third.
The Angus side had to overcome two ties to make it to the third round. The first was away to Lochee United, goals from Euan Spark and a brace from Mitch Taylor comfortably saw the Hedgemen over the line.

In the second round, the Glebe Park side eased past Dundonald Bluebell 3-1. Goals from Fraser MacLeod, Mitchell Findlay and Grady McGrath fired the Highlanders into a three goal lead before a late consolation.
For Kelty Hearts, the Scottish Cup will bring back fond memories for the 2021/22 cup run. The Maroon Machine defeated Buckie Thistle in the second round before edging past Montrose on penalties.
Then followed one of the most memorable evenings at New Central Park defeating holders and Premiership side St Johnstone. An extra time goal from Kallum Higginbotham caused elation in the stands.

Brechin City sit second in the Highland League, and have consistently finished in the top three since their relegation. This fixture, of course, is the first time the sides have met since the play-off tie which saw Kelty Hearts enter the SPFL in place of Brechin.
Previewing the match to Kelty Hearts TV, Thomas O’Ware said “it’ll be a tough tie. We need to be at it, it’s a competition we want to do well in and progress. They’ll come and have a go at us but we need to stand up to that.”
