Match Preview: Kelty Hearts v Bonnyrigg Rose

Attention turns to the East of Scotland Cup as we welcome Bonnyrigg Rose to New Central Park.  Kelty Hearts enter the competition at the semi-final stage where we face the League Two side.

A place in the final is up for grabs where the winner will be playing The Spartans.  They beat Edinburgh City 4-0 at Meadowbank on Tuesday night.

Kelty Hearts go into this fixture on the back of consecutive goalless draws.  The Maroon Machine were held by Montrose and Stenhousemuir respectively as we look to break our 2025 goal duct.

This is the first meeting between the two sides while both are in the SPFL.  The last time the two sides shared the same division was the 2019/20 season in the Lowland League.

This season, Bonnyrigg Rose have struggled in League Two and currently sit ninth.  Calum Elliot’s side have been hit with a six point deduction which has left them avoiding the bottom placed spot on goal difference.  The Rose go into this one after a run of three straight defeats, with the New Dundas Park faithful hopeful the cup will be a welcome distraction.

Previewing the match to Kelty Hearts TV, Scott Mercer looks forward to facing his former club: “They’ve done extremely well and have been unlucky with the points deduction, if they hadn’t had that they’d be much higher up the table.”
