Attention turns to the Scottish Cup as Kelty Hearts travel north to take on Elgin City in the third round. This will be the third time the Maroon Machine have taken on the Borough Briggs side this season despite not sharing the same league.

Kelty Hearts have already made the 151 mile trip to the SPFL’s most northern club in the Premier Sports Cup group stage this season. The game finished as a 1-1 draw with Elgin taking the bonus point on penalties, despite the hosts playing with 10 men for an hour.
The SPFL Trust Trophy meeting took place at New Central Park and saw Kelty progress with a 3-1 win. A brace from Craig Johnston and one from Scott Williamson sent the Maroon Machine on their way before a late consolation from Elgin.
In League Two, Elgin have had a fantastic start to the season and currently sit top. Allan Hale’s side progressed past Clyde in the second round of the Scottish Cup to set up this tie. The match finished 1-1 and went to a penalty shoot-out, with Elgin ‘keeper Aidan Glavin the hero – saving five penalties and scoring one.
Supporters will fondly remember the Scottish Cup for providing one of the most memorable nights at New Central Park in 2022. Kelty Hearts hosted Premiership side and cup holders St. Johnstone and caused an upset as an extra-time winner from Kallum Higginbotham saw the Maroon Machine through to the 5th round.
