Kelty travel west to take on high-flying Clyde

Kelty Hearts are back in league action to take on league leaders Clyde at New Douglas Park.

It will be a tough test for the Maroon Machine travelling to take on early pacesetters Clyde. The Bully Wee has won four of its opening six games, scoring 14 in the process.

Former Kelty loanee Scott Williamson is in red-hot form with eight goals in five games, including a hat-trick last week against Edinburgh City. Clyde left it late after going 2-1 down in the 83rd minute, but two Williamson penalties saw the hosts over the line.

This campaign is only the second time that Kelty Hearts and Clyde shared a division, with the first being the 2022/23 League One season. Kelty won two of those meetings 2-1 and produced a goalless draw in the final meeting, with Clyde also recording a 3-0 win.

Kelty Hearts will be hoping to carry on a good run of two wins in the last seven days. Kelty left it late to secure all three points at New Central Park against Annan last Saturday, with substitute Nathan Lawson grabbing the winner in a 2-1 win.

The Maroon Machine were also in KDM Evolution Trophy action on Tuesday where they won 3-0 against Cumbernauld Colts in Clyde’s former home of Broadwood. A quick-fire brace in the third and fourth minute through Jamie Hislop was added to in the 93rd by Zack Flatman in a 3-0 win.

After Tuesday’s win, Thomas O’Ware previewed the Clyde clash to Kelty Hearts TV. He said: “We look forward to every Saturday. We know what it was like after the Dumbarton game where we got a massive three points, we faced Clydebank and we put in a disappointing final half hour which killed a bit of momentum.

“Tonight (Tuesday) was important to get another three points after Saturday’s win in the league, so we’ve done that and we can look forward to Saturday now.”
