The points were shared at The Rock as Kelty Hearts travelled west to take on Dumbarton in a 2-2 draw. Luke McCarvel gave Kelty the lead in the 10th minute and then Craig Johnston’s 59th minute strike helped us retake the lead – however Mark Durnan equalised twice for the Sons.
The deadlock was broken in the 10th minute with McCarvel’s first league goal of the season. The midfielder picked up the ball just inside the Dumbarton half and ran at the defence. He was too quick for the Sons’ defenders and then carefully placed his shot into the bottom corner.

The equaliser came in the 43rd minute from a set piece. Craig McGuffie swung a corner towards the back post and Durnan was there to head home from close range.
Kelty Hearts retook the lead in the 59th minute, despite early second half pressure from Stevie Farrell’s side. Scott Allan played a fantastic ball into Johnston who got around Durnan and finished through the legs of the Dumbarton goalkeeper.

After dealing with the pressure the equaliser finally came in the 89th minute through Durnan again. After another McGuffie deep corner Durnan leaped the highest of them all and couldn’t miss from six yards out.
Dumbarton forced Ruaridh Adams into a good save while still at 1-1. Mouhamed Niang curled an effort from just outside of the box but Adams dived high to parry behind for a corner.
Dumbarton continued to look dangerous from set pieces throughout the game. In the 74th minute another deep corner to the back post was met by Cammy Clark from close range however he couldn’t get his header on target. Matthew Shields also came close from another corner in the 82nd minute but his header landed over the bar.
Reflecting on the match with Kelty Hearts TV, Michael Tidser said that “in spells we were really good. If we scored the second you potentially score three or four but it wasn’t to be and a point on the road is never a bad point. Overall really disappointed with the goals we conceded but we move on to next week.”
