Edinburgh Ease to Victory at New Central Park

Kelty Hearts lost their fifth game of the season to Edinburgh City. Goals from Lennon Walker, Jason Jarvis and Tommy North in the first half meant Robbie Cole’s goal in the second half was merely a consolation.

The visitors took the lead within two minutes with a neat finish from Lennon Walker. Alex Ferguson took a fresh air swipe at a bouncing ball in the middle of the pitch. Tommy North nipped in, drove with the ball and rolled a perfectly weighted pass through to Lennon Walker who had Callum Flatman beat for pace. Walker coolly slotted the ball passed the onrushing Jamie Smith in goal.

Edinburgh were denied a double a few minutes later when Freddie Rowe beat Jamie Smith to a lofted ball and headed it over his outstretched arms. However, Rowe was narrowly offside.

Edinburgh did manage to double their lead from the penalty spot 25 minutes in. A long throw into the box led to a scramble. Murray Aiken knocked the ball passed Alasdair Davidson who was late with his challenge as he stepped on Aiken’s ankle. Jason Jarvis stepped up to the spot; looking to score from the spot for 2 games in a row. Jamie Smith dived the right way but the ball nestled into the bottom left corner.

The 3rd goal came in the 41st minute with a Tommy North header. Robbie Cole was dispossessed by Josh Grigor on the right-hand side of the Kelty box. Grigor played a looped cross to the penalty spot and Tommy North showed great power and technique to shield off Callum Flatman and direct the ball into the bottom right corner, out of reach of the diving Jamie Smith.

Robbie Cole salvaged some hope for Kelty as he netted in the 68th minute. Cole met an excellent through ball by Alex Ferguson, shrugged off a challenge from Jordan McGregor and curled the ball around Mark Weir in goals.

Edinburgh City’s dominant first half proved to be enough to win all three points. Kelty were much improved in the second half and they created some threatening chances, notably: Innes Murray’s effort straight at the keeper just inside the box,Innes Murray’s missed header at the front post from a cornerand Kallum Higginbotham failing to get on the end of a Thomas Falconer cross.

Overall, Edinburgh City were deserved of the match. Kelty Hearts will look to rekindle their home form as the take on Hearts B at New Central Park on Tuesday at 19:45.
